From tuition policies to special services and events, Adelphi goes out of its way to serve veterans.
Veteran-Friendly Tuition and Fee Policies
If a veteran鈥檚 tuition payment from the V.A. department is delayed, 鈥渨e don鈥檛 charge them a late fee or block them from enrolling in classes like we would with any other student who isn鈥檛 fully paid up on their bill,鈥 said Shawn O鈥橰iley, Ed.D., dean of .
Competency-Based Credits
Veterans enrolled in University College can receive credits for basic听training and computer skills acquired in the military. (UC also听awards competency-based credits to non-veteran adult learners.)
A Clean Slate Policy for Reservists
Adelphi doesn鈥檛 hold reservists deployed during the middle of a听semester financially or academically responsible for that semester.听When they withdraw from their courses, they receive a tuition听refund, and a 鈥榃鈥 doesn鈥檛 show up on their transcript.
Student Veterans of America
A newly established chapter Student Veterans of America, which is a veteran-led club for veterans.
Veterans Resource Center
A small office allocated just for veterans at University College. The office has computers, a printer, charging stations and meeting space. University officials regularly hold sessions about topics like financial aid or veterans鈥 benefits at the center.
Efforts to Increase Visibility of Veteran Issues On Campus
In recent years, the University has invited veteran alumni back for Veterans Day, hosted veteran job fairs open to the whole community, held brown bag lunch meetings for faculty on veteran-student issues and hosted the New York State Veterans Mental Health Conference.
