鈥淚 know Adelphi expects a certain level of academic performance and involvement from me as a scholarship recipient.鈥

Born and raised in New Hyde Park, New York, Joseph Weiss wanted to attend a college or university in the region. Adelphi was his school of choice. 鈥淲ith my twin brother and me going to school at the same time, my parents couldn鈥檛 afford us dorming. This narrowed down my options to mainly local schools,鈥 he said. 鈥淥n top of that, I wanted to try to lighten the load as much as possible for my parents in terms of tuition money. Adelphi鈥檚 tuition was one of the lower ones, if not the lowest.鈥澨
鈥淚 also got the biggest scholarship from Adelphi,鈥 said Mr. Weiss, who is a recipient of Adelphi鈥檚 Provost Scholarship, awarded to students with excellent academic performance and co-curricular activities.
Being a scholarship recipient has shaped his overall experience at Adelphi. 鈥淚 know Adelphi expects a certain level of academic performance and involvement from me as a scholarship recipient,鈥 says Mr. Weiss, who is a member of a , student government, and the , among other organizations across campus.
鈥淎s a commuter student I never imagined myself getting sucked into the school the way I have been. Through work, my fraternity, and the organizations I鈥檓 involved in, I now care about every aspect of Adelphi: how it鈥檚 run, how my career here is progressing, and the people I鈥檝e met and continue to meet.鈥
Currently a junior at Adelphi, Mr. Weiss has declared sport management as his major. With biology, chemistry and a number of other science and sports-related courses already completed, he is looking forward to the business requirements of the major. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited about the business classes,鈥 he said. 鈥淪cience is straight facts. Business is learning about people. It鈥檚 a whole different kind of learning.鈥
鈥淲ith the support I鈥檓 receiving from Adelphi and what my parents are helping pay, hopefully I won鈥檛 have any debt coming out of college, which would be outstanding given the position so many other students are in across the country,鈥 he said. 鈥淚鈥檓 proud to have been given this honor from Adelphi鈥nd I鈥檓 very thankful.鈥
