Just as we all return for Fall 2023, September isÌýNational Campus Safety Awareness Month. Adelphi’s Garden City campus is rated one of the safest in the country, and we work hard to maintain that proud distinction.Ìý

Campus safety is everyone’s responsibility. Only by working together as a community will we ensure a safe environment for everyone at Â鶹ֱ²¥.Ìý

Important Safety Resources and Information

If you see something, say something:ÌýIf you become aware of an issue, incident or troubling situation causing anxiety, stress or fear, you shouldÌýpromptly report it.ÌýIf the situation appears imminent and/or includes the risk of violence to self or others, you should callÌý911Ìýor Public Safety byÌýdialing “5” from any campus phoneÌýor callingÌý516-877-3511.

Mass Notification System (RAVE):ÌýIn the event of a hostile intruder, emergency lockdown/shelter-in-place order, or weather related delay or closing, the Department of Public Safety notifies our community members via RAVE and/or our Emergency Public Address System.ÌýSign up for Adelphi RAVE alerts.

Resources for Your Preparedness

• Participate in one or more of our on-campus National Campus Safety Month events/trainings hosted by Public Safety throughout September.
• Request a Public Safety training for your department or group to learn important ways to be prepared for hostile intruder events, including run, hide, fight guidelines and Stop The Bleed life-saving techniques.

• Stop the Bleed kits are mounted in all public safety vehicles and in the Performing Arts Center, Center for Recreation and Sport, Swirbul Library, Nexus, Levermore Hall, and the University Center.Ìý
• The University Center has automated external defibrillator (AED) devices for trained individuals to use.

Our Preparedness

• Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT): Following the 2007 tragedy at Virginia Tech, Adelphi was one of the first institutions to establish a dedicated team for monitoring and addressing reported safety concerns. BIT (previously the Threat Assessment Team) is coordinated by Public Safety to help address or prevent serious safety issues that involve our community in support of Adelphi’s incident reporting and resolution procedures.Ìý
• Testing and Practice: At least once a year we test our Emergency Operations Plan and our Mass Notification System (RAVE). Our Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is published annually in accordance with the Clery Act. And, in support of our goal to always be prepared and ready, our Department and Adelphi’s senior leaders practice the University’s emergency response on an ongoing basis with tabletop exercises.
• Local Police Support: We maintain close working relationships with the police departments of Garden City, Hempstead, Nassau County, Suffolk County, Poughkeepsie and New York City. All Adelphi campus locations are supported by these police services, including criminal investigation and emergency response.
