Over the past 25 years Christopher Saucedo鈥檚 sculpture and works on paper have been presented in over 100 solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad with one-person exhibitions at The Pensacola Art Museum, Florida; The Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast, Northern Ireland The Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans; The University of North Carolina at Greensboro; SternStudio Gallery, Vienna, Austria; Barrister鈥檚 Gallery, New Orleans and the Leedy-Voulkos Gallery, Kansas City.
Group exhibitions include recent shows at The Pera Museum, Istanbul, Turkey; Chateau La Napoule, La Napoule, France and The New Orleans Museum of Art with upcoming shows at The Dishman Art Museum, Beaumont, Texas; The National September 11th Memorial & Museum, The Proteus Gowanus Gallery, Brooklyn, NY. and the New Orleans Museum of Art.
Saucedo is the recipient of numerous awards including recent grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (2013), The Joan Mitchell Foundation (2013) and the New York Foundation for the Arts. He also recently completed three works of public sculpture in New Orleans. 鈥淔lood Marker鈥, at the Milne Boys Home, 鈥淓qual Slices鈥 on the campus of the University of New Orleans and 鈥楤oettner Park, You Are Here鈥 is in the Lower Garden District. A new monumental steel sculpture, titled; 鈥淵ou Must be This Tall鈥 is under construction for the St Claude Art District also in New Orleans.
Saucedo has presented lectures and workshops at universities and other institutions throughout the United States. He has also curated many exhibitions, mostly in New Orleans at The Good Children Gallery, of which he is a founding member. His artwork has been reviewed and featured in publications such as Art News, Bomb Magazine, Art Papers, Sculpture and The New York Times.
He was born (1964) in Brooklyn, New York where he grew up. Saucedo received his BFA from New York's School of Visual Arts in 1986, and his MFA from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1988. After attending the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, he did post-graduate work at the Queens University of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Saucedo retired as Research Professor and Chair of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of New Orleans where he ran the sculpture program for 20 years. Currently he is a member of the faculty at 麻豆直播 in Garden City, New York.
