Hofstra University Graduate Study Partnership
Hofstra University and Â鶹ֱ²¥ have launched a streamlined partnership to expand student success.
Under this “Adelphi to Hofstra Pathway” partnership, Adelphi students with a BA in Fine Arts, a BFA in Fine Arts or a BA in PsychologyÌýcan now smoothly transition to continue their graduate studies at Hofstra in the MA in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling program.

Fine Arts or Psychology majors at Adelphi can pursue a Creative Arts Therapy Counseling master’s at Hofstra.

- guaranteed admission upon completion of prerequisite classes and maintenance of minimum grade point averages
- waiver of several master’s courses, satisfied by designated undergraduate courses
- reduced time and cost to earn a graduate degree
- automatic consideration for Hofstra graduate scholarshipÌýopportunities
Eligibility
Undergraduate students at AdelphiÌýeligible forÌýHofstra’sÌýÌýmust, under this partnership, choose to major In one of the following undergraduate disciplines at Adelphi:
- BA in Fine Arts (with or without a minor in Art Therapy)
- BFA in Fine Arts Ìý(with or without a minor in Art Therapy)
- BA in Psychology (with or without a minor in Art Therapy)
Information for Applicants
- Students who wish to be considered for this program must apply before they have less than 24 credits left to complete their degrees, but no later than December 1 of the year preceding the year they seek to enroll at Hofstra. Applicants must have obtained a GPA of at least 3.0 or higher. Those with a lower GPA will be reviewed by the appropriate Adelphi administrator on a case-by-case basis.
- Besides applying before they have less than 24 credits left to complete their bachelor’s degrees, they also must have completed or have the following courses in progress:
PrerequisitesÌý(30 credits)
- PIA 101 General Psychology (3 credits)
- PIA 114 Lifespan Development for non-majors (3 credits) or PIA 115 Lifespan Development Psychology (3 credits)
- PIA 283 Psychopathology (3 credits)
- PIA 286 Theories of Personality (3 credits)
- Fine Arts, including a selection of 2D and 3D courses (18 credits)
Example courses, but not limited to:- ART 101 Fundamentals of 2D Design (3 credits)
- ART Drawing I (3 credits)
- ART Printmaking I (3 credits)
- ART Painting I (3 credits)
- ARTÌý Introduction to Photography (3 credits)
- ART 3D Design (3 credits)
* Optional application of graduate credits to the Hofstra program:
Adelphi students who complete MPS 627 Clinical Interventions Workshop (3 credits) and two graduate Fine Arts courses (for a total of 6 credits), all receiving a grade of C+ or better, will have a total of 9 credits applied to the Hofstra program, if accepted to the program.
Eligible graduate Fine Arts courses, but not limited to:
- ART 765 Color, Media and Material (3 credits)
- ART 793 Major Creative Project (3 credits)
- ART 771 Painting Studio (3 credits)
- ART 773 Sculpture Studio (3 credits)
Application Requirements
A complete application for admission into the Hofstra program shall include:
- official college transcript
- personal statement
- a portfolio of approximately eight pieces
- an interview
- any other information requiredÌý by the director of the Hofstra program, as requested in writing
